Butterfly Effect

Stripped down and with open minds – Magnus Lindgren and John Beasley embark on a musical journey.

A new collaboration between Magnus Lindgren and John Beasley – the creative duo that previously made the Grammy-winning Charlie Parker tribute, Bird Lives.

Here, we see them perform as a scaled-back duo. But small things can reflect big ones: the Butterfly Effect is a concept in chaos theory referring to how a tiny impact in one part of a system can have major effects elsewhere in the system. With open minds and a keen sensitivity to each other's ideas, Magnus Lindgren and John Beasley explore the unknown. Both have often worked with larger ensembles, and Butterfly Effect reveals a completely different side of their artistry.

The Grammy and Emmy award-winning composer, arranger and pianist John Beasley has played with legends like Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Dianne Reeves, Steely Dan, Marcus Miller, Chaka Khan and James Brown. He has also worked on film scores. For several years he was Music Director at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, which is now the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz.

Magnus Lindgren, together with trumpet player and singer Peter Asplund, is artistic director of Konserthuset’s Blue House Orchestra. He recently spent three years as Artist in Residence with SWR Big Band. He has collaborated with numerous leading musicians, such as Herbie Hancock, Gregory Porter, James Ingram, Bobby McFerrin, Ivan Lins, Till Brönner and John Scofield.
