Organ matinée with Stefan Therstam
Improvisations and a celebration of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Through Konserthuset’s popular organ matinée subscription, audiences get to hear prominent organists play the building’s organ – one of the largest in Europe, with 6,100 pipes.
Stefan Therstam has been the organist at Engelbrekt Church in Stockholm since 1999. He is also an award-winning improvisor and professor at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he teaches liturgical organ playing and improvisation.
In Sigfrid Karg-Elert’s (1877–1933) Passacaglia and Fugue on BACH, at this organ matinée he demonstrates the incredible power of the mighty organ at Konserthuset. We also get a taste of Stefan Therstam’s unparalleled ability to improvise on a given theme.
