Rising Stars with soprano and piano
A personal and exciting programme with the French soprano Axelle Fanyo.
Don’t miss the opportunity to hear tomorrow’s classical music stars today. Rising Stars is a unique and forward-looking collaboration between 24 of Europe’s leading concert halls, all members of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO). A handful of young musicians and ensembles from various countries are selected each year and given the opportunity to tour the concert halls and perform before international audiences. Experience shows that those who are selected as Rising Stars also have internationally successful careers.
French Axelle Fanyo began her musical career as a violinist, and then switched to singing and earned her degree at the conservatory in Paris. She has studied with greats such as Waltraud Meier and Felicity Lott, and has taken masterclasses with Renée Fleming. She is a dedicated lied singer and also has a vast opera repertoire. Axelle Fanyo has worked with Esa-Pekka Salonen and pianist Julius Drake.
Axelle Fanyo was nominated to Rising Stars by Paris Philharmonie, Auditorium de Lyon and the Gulbenkian Foundation. She performs with Indian-American pianist Kunal Lahiry, who is a current BBC New Generation Artist and whose career is flourishing.
Axelle Fanyo presents a highly personal programme of music from the twentieth century and new music, including by cabaret master Kurt Weill, rarely heard songs by Arnold Schoenberg and Pulitzer-award-winning American composer William Bolcom (born 1938). We also hear a new composition by the exciting Greek composer Sofia Avramidou (born 1988).
