Lamine Cissokko & Fanta Yayo
Afro-jazz from Senegal and Guinea
Lamine Cissokho is a descendent of a family of Mandingo griots from Senegal; many of his relatives are well-known musicians whose traditions date back to the 15th century. Every family member preserves this musical legacy by passing down their expertise and musical talents to the next generation.
In recent years, Lamine has increasingly been composing and improvising in the style of Afro-jazz, and has begun an exciting collaboration with singer and dancer Fanta Yayo. Fanta grew up in the Guinean capital of Conakry and previously sang in the band Tamala. She has also toured internationally with bands such as Mamady Keita Jr and Seckou Keita.
