Popular music from East and Central Africa

Stockholm-based Dekula Band has been an underground phenomenon for over a decade and is now beginning to garner the recognition they deserve. Dekula Band is centred around bandleader Dekula Kahanga, former member of the legendary Orchestra Maquis from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Tanzania in the 70s and 80s.

Whether they are playing the Lilla Wien club or big concerts at the Stockholm Jazz Festival, the band draws a huge, enthusiastic audience. They will now be performing at Konserthuset Stockholm for the first time ever.

Dekula Kahanga and singer Gaby have roots in the Congo. The other band members have roots in Senegal, Kenya, Uganda and Sweden, and contribute their own influences to the glittering, eminently danceable Soukous music style, which is incredibly popular in East and Central Africa in particular.
