Chief of Navy’s Concert – A tribute to the Navy’s 500-year anniversary
External promoter: Försvarsmakten
Anniversary concert centred on the sea
This year marks 500 years since the formation of the Swedish Navy. The Chief of Navy’s Concert is a reminder of the historic significance of the sea and sea routes. Over the centuries, in both times of turmoil and times of calm, the presence of the Navy has been important for Sweden’s development and independence. Five hundred years later, the Swedish Navy’s importance is at least as great as when it was founded. The music performed at this concert has a connection in one way or another to the Swedish Navy, the sea, or the Royal Swedish Navy Band.
The Royal Swedish Navy Band dates back to the 1680s and has been consistently active since then. The band consists of 30 full-time professional musicians and is stationed in the World Heritage city of Karlskrona.
Alexander Hanson is a regular guest conductor with the most prominent orchestras in the Nordic region. He has also conducted orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Brussels Philharmonic and the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has been music director of the Royal Swedish Navy Band since 2018.
