Konserthuset 100 Years

On 7 April 1926, Konserthuset Stockholm was inaugurated. One hundred years later, we invite you to music, stories and discoveries – a birthday celebration to which everyone is warmly welcome.

From 7 to 11 April, the building will be filled with live music, an exhibition, guided tours, a book presentation and dancing. Step inside and join us.

Here you can enjoy a preview of the summer’s major exhibition, with highlights from Konserthuset’s 100-year history. Guides will share insights into the art and design found throughout the building. And on one evening, Grünewald Hall will be transformed into a 1920s club with live music and dancing – a tribute to the era when it all began.

The celebrations culminate in The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s concerts in the Main Hall on Thursday 9 April and Saturday 11 April. Just as at the inauguration of Konserthuset in April 1926, Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony will be performed. The programme also features a world première: a cello concerto composed by the season’s Composer-in-Residence, Tebogo Monnakgotla.

A Week of Birthday Celebrations at Konserthuset!

An architectural competition for a concert hall was announced in 1919. Ivar Tengbom won with his proposal The Red Heart.

Join us for a tour of the art and decorative features of Konserthuset.

The Main Hall is a meeting place – a public square within Konserthuset.

From the outset, Konserthuset was intended to serve as the venue for the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony – and it has done so since 1926.

A symbol of an era. Quality, craftsmanship and playfulness characterise the hundred-year-old landmark at Hötorget.

Orpheus was finally installed in 1936 – only to vanish one night in 1938.

Ivar Tengbom won the architectural competition for Stockholm’s long-awaited concert hall.

Tens of thousands of photographs and many years of documentation lie behind the beautiful volume published to coincide with the anniversary.

At the Konserthuset box office, you can purchase more than just concert tickets.

The exterior of Konserthuset is undergoing an extensive renovation. The work is scheduled for completion on 30 June.

Hötorget is being transformed in the spring of 2026, becoming an even more attractive square and meeting place.
