A New Look for Hötorget
Hötorget is being transformed in the spring of 2026, becoming an even more attractive square and meeting place.
Ahead of Konserthuset’s centenary, Hötorget is also being given a renewed design. The project forms part of the City of Stockholm’s long-term development of the square, with the aim of creating a more welcoming, greener and more vibrant meeting place.
The market stalls are being relocated closer to Haymarket – the hotel at Hötorget with restaurants, bar and café in an Art Deco setting. The ambition is also to create a more cohesive layout for the square’s trading activities. With the new arrangement, larger open spaces will emerge in front of the Konserthuset steps – areas that allow for events and pop-up features. There will also be additional seating and increased greenery, with flower planters placed around the square.
The development is taking place in close collaboration between the City of Stockholm, property owners, businesses and market traders. A joint working group is reviewing the needs of Hötorget as part of this process.
As Konserthuset celebrates its 100th anniversary, it is therefore not only the building that has been given renewed radiance – Hötorget, too, is being transformed into an inviting meeting place.
