Welcome to the 100-Year-Old
A Week of Birthday Celebrations at Konserthuset!
Here is a brief overview of the activities at Konserthuset during the birthday week. You can find more information in the calendar. Take the opportunity to read the texts on the history of Konserthuset – even frequent visitors may discover something new.
In the Main Foyer, visitors can enjoy a preview of this summer’s major exhibition, with highlights from Konserthuset’s 100-year history. The programme item Artists Special offers an insight into the artists and craftspeople whose works adorn Konserthuset.
In the Main Hall, slideshows of photographs from Konserthuset’s 100-year history will be shown. This is also the hall where the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony takes place.
On the evening of Tuesday 7 April, Grünewald Hall is transformed into a 1920s club, with live music and dancing – a tribute to the era when it all began.
On Tuesday 7 April and Wednesday 8 April, young musicians will perform jazz on the Orpheus Stage in Konserthuset’s vestibule. On Wednesday evening there will also be two concerts featuring musicians from the RSPO Orchestra Academy, the advanced training programme that has been closely linked to the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra for ten years.
On Thursday 9 April, there will be a book launch followed by a concert with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra (the concert is also given on 11 April). The presentation is open to all visitors with a ticket for the subsequent concert. Konserthuset’s Managing Director Susanne Rydén will moderate the event, and among the guests is Yanan Li, the photographer behind the rich visual material.
The 100-year celebration culminates in a concert by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in the Main Hall. Just as at the inauguration of Konserthuset in April 1926, Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony will be performed. The programme also includes a world premiere: a cello concerto by the Composer-in-Residence, Tebogo Monnakgotla.
