A Tribute to Oscar Peterson

Guitarist Ulf Wakenius celebrates a friend, colleague and inspirer, together with pianist Robi Botos, bassist Hans Backenroth and Lewis Nash, drums.

Ulf Wakenius is one of Sweden’s most prominent jazz guitarists internationally. He debuted in the 1970s and became a name through the group Hawk On Flight, of which he was a founding member. The duo Guitars Unlimited, with Peter Almqvist, also received significant attention in the 1980s.

Wakenius has worked with a long line of the world’s leading names in jazz, and in 1997 he joined Oscar Peterson’s acclaimed quartet. Oscar Peterson himself described Ulf Wakenius as one of the greatest guitarists. And many excellent guitarists count themselves among Wakenius’ outspoken admirers, including Pat Metheny, John McLaughlin, John Scofield and Mike Stern.

In a tribute to friend, colleague and source of inspiration Oscar Peterson, we hear Ulf Wakenius together with the versatile Hungarian-Canadian pianist Robi Botos, who has drawn inspiration from Oscar Peterson. We also hear a highly skilled rhythm section consisting of Swedish bassist Hans Backenroth, whose credentials are endless, as well as Lewis Nash on drums, one of the most sought-after musicans in jazz and represented on many hundreds of albums.
