Soup Concert with a string trio

A string trio from the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra plays Monnakgotla and Dohnányi.

Tebogo Monnakgotla received a boost early in her career when she won an award at the International Rostrum of Composers Competition; she was also Swedish Radio station P2’s composer-in-residence from 2007–09. Monnakgotla, who grew up in Uppsala, enjoys incorporating poetry into her music and collaborates, among others, with the poet Li Li. Five Pieces for String Trio was composed in 2007.

A century earlier, around 1902, Hungarian Ernst von Dohnányi was on tour to London and Vienna. In his free time, he composed a serenade for string trio. The five movements follow the tradition of nineteenth-century serenades and in the footsteps of Brahms and Hungarian folk music, but Dohnányi’s own voice can be heard distinctly.

Violinist Daniela Bonfiglioli has been a member of the first violin section of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since 2011, and Hanna Dahlkvist has played cello in the orchestra since 2015. Hanna can also be heard in the Dahlkvist Quartet, one of the country’s most coveted string quartets. Lauriane Dahlkvist is from Lyon, France, and joined the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in 2016.
