Lied concert with Bryn Terfel

The great Welsh bass-baritone is in high demand.

Bryn Terfel is one of the most prominent singers of our era. With his unparalleled bass-baritone voice, he has made an extraordinary career. He performs on the most prestigious stages worldwide: the Royal Opera House and Covent Garden in London, the Metropolitan in New York, Opéra National de Paris and La Scala in Milan, to name just a few. He has performed Falstaff in the opera by Verdi, Dulcamara in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, and Wotan in Wagner’s The Ring of the Nibelung.

It is now our great pleasure to welcome Bryn Terfel to Konserthuset Stockholm for an exclusive lied concert – the previously planned concert in March 2021 had to be cancelled. His on-stage charisma is much discussed and his concerts are always extraordinary. In addition, he pays tribute to his background and sings Welsh favourites along with British folk music and musical melodies.

He has recorded over 50 albums and has won multiple Grammy Awards. He has also won numerous prizes and distinctions, including Commander of the British Empire and the Queen’s Medal for Music. Bryn Terfel was knighted in 2017 for his musical achievements.

Versatile pianist Magnus Svensson specialises in the art of lied, and he has served as artistic director of Lied Evenings at Konserthuset for several seasons. In addition to concerts in the Nordic region and elsewhere in Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the US.

Magnus Svensson obtained his soloist diploma from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, graduated with honours as top student, and then immersed himself in the study of lied interpretation in London. Since 2012, he has also worked at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music with re-publishing older Swedish music. The prize-winning Welsh harpist Hannah Stone contributes with a couple of works.
