Sunday 22 May 2022 16.00Ends approximately 18.00
Since its formation in 2015, Orpheus Baroque has grown into an important part of the capital city’s music offering, serving as a meeting place for orchestra members and some of Sweden’s foremost freelance Baroque musicians. Under the title Orpheus’s Treasure Trove we meet this ensemble in its slightly reduced, chamber setting.
Orfeus Baroque often thematises its programmes, focusing on a certain historical period, a geographical area or a particular style in baroque music. In this case, highlighting the viola through some selected gems in the repertoire. Being an instrument of the middle register its important role is often overlooked, but now we get to hear the viola even in more solistic capacities.
The critically acclaimed ensemble collaborates with guest conductors such as Alfredo Bernardini, Dan Laurin, Peter Spissky, Luca Guglielmi, Göran Karlsson and Mariangiola Martello, and soloists such as Anders J. Dahlin and Kristina Hammarström. The artistic directors are the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s solo cellist Johannes Rostamo, and concertmaster and Baroque violinist Elin Gabrielsson.
