Alexandre Kantorow

The French pianist plays music by for instance Brahms and Schubert.

In 2019, at the age of 22, Alexandre Kantorow became the first French pianist ever to win the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition. He has given recitals at Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Carnegie Hall in New York, among other places. He is renowned for his fiery, intense and poetically penetrating performances, and debuted with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in 2021 in Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2.

In this recital, he tackles one of Franz Schubert’s most technically challenging and difficult-to-master pieces: Wanderer Fantasy. Schubert took the basic theme from one of his romances, Der Wanderer, The Wanderer. Kantorow also presents a bouquet of Schubert’s songs in Liszt’s imaginative arrangements.

With many concerts and an acclaimed album, Kantorow has dug down deep into the music of Johannes Brahms. Kantorow won the Tchaikovsky Competition with Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2. At this concert, he has chosen to perform the Sonata in C major, composed by Brahms at just 20 years old.
