Through Konserthuset’s popular organ matinée subscription, audiences get to hear prominent organists play the building’s organ – one of the largest in Europe, with 6,100 pipes.
For 30 years, Ann-Kristin Färnström has been organist of Skön parish in Medelpad, where she has done fantastic work for classical music and the music scene. She studied organ and improvisation at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with professors Torvald Torén and Anders Bondeman.
We hear music by Bach, the French Romantic organist Alexandre Guilmant and French Jeanne Demessieux – but also a few surprising pieces. How about an arrangement of rock band Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody? Or Irish Enya’s emotional, global hit Athair Ar Neamh – which was played at the wedding of Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist?
