Soup Concert with cello and piano
Philharmonics play Sergey Rachmaninoff’s lush Cello Sonata in g minor.
Rachmaninoff was himself a brilliant pianist, which is evident here when the piano next to the cello has the chance to spread its wings in masterful passages, refined chords and billowing accompaniment. This is deeply romantic music with the cello singing intimately.
We hear cellist Mikael Sjögren, Co-Principal/alternate solo cellist and member of the orchestra since 1990. On multiple occasions he has performed as the soloist with the orchestra and he is a diligent chamber musician.
Pianist Stefan Lindgren has performed with most major orchestras in Sweden. He has been the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s pianist since 2007 and frequently participates in chamber music concerts
