Genre: Chamber music

Soup Concert with French gold

Philharmonic musicians play string quartets.

A string quartet from the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra begins with contemporary music by American Jessie Montgomery, born in 1981 in New York. She is an acclaimed composer, violinist, and educator. Her piece Strum draws on American folk idioms and the spirit of dance and movement. The piece begins with fleeting nostalgia and transforms into ecstatic celebration.

Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor is one of the great masterpieces of the genre. It is traditionally arranged with four movements, but in this well-known form, Debussy has brought out musical gold with lyrically caressing melodies, rhythmic challenges and surprising harmonies.

Lola Torrente has been a member of the orchestra’s first violin section since 2015; Gabriel Cornet has been a member of the second violin section since 2016; Lauriane Dahlkvist has been a member of the viola section since 2016; and Josep Castanyer Alsonso has been a member of the cello section since 2019.

Please note: the previously scheduled string quartet by Édith Canat de Chizy has been replaced by the quartet by Jessie Montgomery.
