Rising Stars – Sonoro Quartet
Classical masterpieces and new music with this season’s Rising Stars.
Belgian Sonoro Quartet was founded in 2019 and has already become internationally established with tours and festival appearances throughout Europe. During the 2023/24 season, the quartet is part of Rising Stars, nominated by Bozar in Brussels.
Their repertoire is broad, with classical masterpieces as well as new compositions, and this is reflected in the programme: two key pieces from the repertoire – the quartets by Beethoven and Bartók are milestones in the art of quartet – intermingle with two new compositions.
Belgian composer Annelies van Parys’ oeuvre includes orchestral and chamber music, but above all: vocal works and music for theatre. British-Sri Lankan Vinthya Perinpanathan is trained in Western music, but has started to explore her South Asian heritage in music that crosses genres. She is a composer, violinist and DJ.
Rising Stars is a unique and forward-looking collaboration between 24 of Europe’s leading concert halls, all members of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO). A handful of young musicians and ensembles from various countries are selected each year and given the opportunity to tour the concert halls and perform before international audiences. Experience shows that those who are selected as Rising Stars also have internationally successful careers.
