About the concert

På svenska

Meet the night through evocative music by composers Flannery Cunningham and Anna Clyne.

Meet top-level young musicians in a setting where both the audience and performers share the stage of the Main Hall at Konserthuset Stockholm. This is an atmospheric concert with the Main Hall in darkness, offering an intimate musical experience – with audience members seated on stage (subject to availability) or in the stalls. Experiencing classical music this up close is truly something special!

The musicians are students at the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s International Orchestra Academy – an advanced, international training programme for young, exceptionally talented musicians. Under the guidance of section leaders from the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and in collaboration with the School of Music in Piteå, the students receive intensive training in solo performance, chamber music and orchestral playing.

They also present themselves through a series of concerts. This programme features music by Flannery Cunningham (b. 1991) and Anna Clyne (b. 1980). Cunningham is an American composer and musicologist whose piece We are the same as we have always been, moves from the intimate, private and solitary to the bustle of the public world. In her work 1987, British composer Anna Clyne combines instrumental music with recorded sounds from a music box her father gave her mother during their courtship, along with ambient childhood sounds from the coastal town of Brighton.
