The ceremony for the most prestigious award in Swedish literature.
The August Prize Gala is the highlight of the literary year, when books awarded with the August Prize are announced at a festive ceremony. The award has been presented since 1989 and the ceremony is rather like the Oscars of Swedish literature.
Now literature lovers among the general public are invited to attend this festive evening!
The 18 nominated books will each be introduced by a presenter, all of whom are prominent personalities in various ways, and who will discuss their experience with the book. The audience will include – in addition to the nominated authors – publishers, bookstore owners, librarians, literary critics and book-lovers from all over Sweden. This year’s gala will be hosted by Sissela Kyle and will include a surprise musical performance.
The August Prize is presented in the following categories: Best Swedish Fiction of the Year, Best Swedish Non-fiction of the Year, and Best Swedish Children and Young Adult Book of the Year. In addition, the Little August Prize and the Swedish Publishers’ Association’s Honorary Prize will also be presented at the gala.
The August Prize is presented by the Swedish Publishers’ Association in partnership with Elite Hotels of Sweden and Swedbank.
The ticket includes a glass of sparkling wine before the performance, which will be served from 16.00 when the doors open.
