Opening Concert – Aurora Music Festival

Opening concert with Aurora Chamber Orchestra, Camilla Tilling and Frans Helmerson

The Aurora Music Festival 2019 in Stockholm is the third festival in Stockholm and the 45th Aurora Festival in Sweden. At this opening concert, we will experience two of Sweden’s most prominent international star soloists: soprano Camilla Tilling and legendary cellist Frans Helmerson. Also participating will be the Aurora Chamber Orchestra under the baton of violinist and conductor Daniel Bard.

The concert features a versatile programme, beginning with Benjamin Britten’s bubbling and playful Simple Symphony, music to which Britten himself returned and conducted throughout his life. Franz Schubert is the great master of classical song. He composed over 600 lieds, most of which were accompanied by piano and here, we will hear some of the most beautiful in an arrangement for soprano and string orchestra.

Dvorák’s Cello Concerto is on the repertoire of all great cellists. But he also composed the extremely beautiful Waldesruhe, inspired by his home region of Bohemia, and it is a piece composed directly from the heart. Tchaikovsky’s popular Serenade for Strings is also a piece that comes from the heart. Enormous passion is found here, spiced with a dash of melancholy and a hearty dose of joy.

Since 2006, the Aurora Music Festival has gathered thousands of musicians, artists and global stars to perform classical music for over 100,000 listeners.

In cooperation with Aurora Music Festival.
