Cancelled: Calle Real

This concert is cancelled.

Timba – rhythmic music from Cuba

With hits like Abreme La Puerta, Princesa, and Ya lo, Calle Real has filled dance floors worldwide and toured Europe, Africa and Latin America. The 13-person band gives a spectacular live experience, with modern, tight Cuban timba in their own inimitable style – which always has audiences up and out of their seats!

Rickard Valdés, son of legendary pianist Bebo Valdés, is the only band member with Cuban roots, but several members have studied Cuban music and have spent extended periods of time living in Cuba. The band’s international career began in 2003, when they were invited to play at the Benny Moré International Music Festival in Cuba, where top Cuban salsa and timba bands gather together. The event was immortalized in a music documentary that was screened at the Göteborg Film Festival in 2004 and that has aired multiple times on SVT.

The Afro-Cuban musical style known as timba is a further development of salsa. It was launched in Cuba in the early 90s by top legendary Cuban bands, primarily NG La Banda, as well as Charanga Habanera, Isaac Delgado, Paulito FG and Los Van.
