Royal Swedish Army Band performs British music
Ralph Vaughan Williams is one of England’s best known and most significant composers. His varied, atmospheric music contains everything from passionate drama and charged energy to reflective moments of calm.
If Ralph Vaughan Williams were still alive, he would now be turning 150 years old. The Royal Swedish Army Band is paying tribute with a concert featuring several of our favourite works by this composer. The programme includes Toccata Marziale, a true classic for symphonic brass band, and English Folk Song Suite, one of Vaughan Williams’ most performed and popular pieces.
The Royal Swedish Army Band in Stockholm is Sweden’s biggest music corps and has an excellent reputation nationally and internationally. The ensemble frequently performs at major public events, such as the Swedish National Day celebration at Skansen, and His Majesty the King’s birthday celebration at the Royal Palace.
The Royal Swedish Army Band will be led by Andrew Manze, the internationally acclaimed conductor who was principal conductor of the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra from 2006–2014.
