Youssou N'Dour & Le Super Étoile

Hear Senegal’s biggest musician and his ensemble Super Étoile de Dakar

Youssou N’Dour is one of Africa’s biggest and most influential musicians, both musically and socially. He received the 2013 Polar Music Prize as well as numerous distinctions for his work, and has had triumphant collaborations over the years with greats like Peter Gabriel, Sting, Tracy Chapman, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Wyclef Jean and Burna Boy.

Youssou N’Dour’s music stems from the popular M’balax musical style, a genre shaped largely by Youssou himself. He is a composer, orchestral conductor and producer, and while he may be firmly rooted in the music and culture of Senegal, he constantly brings in new impressions and influences from elsewhere.

His powerful dedication to Pan-African social causes has made him an important voice, with assignments from organisations like Amnesty International, the UN and UNICEF. The legendary music magazine Rolling Stone described him as “perhaps the most famous singer alive” in Africa. In 2007, Time Magazine listed N’Dour as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, and he is the top-selling African pop musician of all time, with over 30 albums. In recent years, the singles “Nay”, “Mbeggeul is all” and “Be careful” have topped the charts in his home country of Senegal and in Gambia.

He released the album “MBALAX” in 2021 and the latest single “Le Grand Bal” came out earlier this year. We are proud to present Youssou N’Dour and his legendary band Le Super Étoile de Dakar during the Selam Festival at Konserthuset Stockholm.
