My name was Euphrosyne

External organiser: Cantemus Produktion AB

A dramatic depiction in words and notes about singer Euphrosyne Leman Abrahamson. Euphrosyne began a promising opera career in 1855 at barely 19 years of age, with opera performances in Stockholm, Vienna and Madrid, where she was named “Prima Donna Assoluta”. She has been compared to Jenny Lind and was viewed as Lind’s successor, with an opportunity for an international career. She was admired by both Rossini and Verdi. Euphrosyne married August Abrahamson in 1858 and ended her career as a singer at age 23. In 1868 she was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, but died the next year at barely 32 years old.

Caroline Gentele sings opera arias from Euphrosyne’s repertoire, in addition to folk songs and klezmer.
