Panel Discussion – What Does the Future Hold for Our Young Musicians?

Konserthuset Stockholm and RUM (the National Association of Young Musicians) present a panel discussion on what the future holds for young musicians.

Questions are being raised about resources and the conditions of the county's cultural schools to conduct orchestral activities – especially symphony orchestras. The entire educational chain is also being highlighted, from cultural schools up to music college, along with the replenishment of orchestral musicians, with a focus on those instruments that fewer and fewer people play, and fewer cultural schools offer. This complicates recruitment even for the country's orchestras.

To create better conditions for culture in society, public opinion and the willingness of politicians also play a role. Few young people want or dare to pursue a career in music due to the uncertainty in the job market and a lack of protection for freelancers. Often, musicians are forced into self-employment, where there is poor protection, and institutions such as the Social Insurance Agency have insufficient knowledge about working conditions.
