Anders Wall Music Award

From autumn 2026, Konserthuset will host the competition, whose aim is to provide young instrumentalists with strong support as they transition into a professional career.

From autumn 2026, the Anders Wall Music Award will be presented at Konserthuset Stockholm. The competition highlights the next generation of instrumentalists and culminates in a final in Grünewald Hall on 1 November. The winner receives a development scholarship of SEK 125,000 as well as the opportunity to perform under the auspices of Konserthuset Stockholm.

The Anders Wall Music Award was established in 2024 to provide young instrumentalists with stronger support in the transition to a professional career. Through the competition, participants are given the opportunity to meet an international jury and leading figures from Swedish musical life in a context defined by artistic excellence and long-term development.

The Anders Wall Music Award rotates between three instrumental categories: wind instruments, strings and piano. This year’s edition is dedicated to wind instruments, followed by strings in 2027 and piano in 2028.

“We are delighted by this new collaboration with the Anders Wall Foundation, which aligns closely with Konserthuset’s vision and work to promote talent development and strengthen the future of musical life,” says Susanne Rydén, CEO and Hall Director of Konserthuset.

The competition is open to young instrumentalists aged 18–30 with a connection to Sweden through Swedish heritage or studies at a Swedish conservatoire or upper secondary school specialising in music. The selection process takes place in three stages: digital application, semi-final and final.

“The step from studies to a professional career is challenging for young instrumentalists. The competition gives participants the opportunity to build experience and perform on one of Sweden’s foremost stages – something that can be highly significant early in a career,” says Peter Friis Johansson, Artistic Director of the Anders Wall Music Award.

The jury for this year’s edition includes Gregor Zubicky, Artistic Director of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, clarinettist Karin Dornbusch, Rupprecht Drees, Principal Trumpet of the Staatskapelle Weimar, and Martin Schöpfer representing the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. Emil Eliasson, Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Swedish Wind Ensemble, will take part in the first selection stage in which the semi-finalists are chosen.

The first-prize winner receives a scholarship of SEK 125,000 to support continued artistic development, as well as opportunities for future performances presented by Konserthuset Stockholm. Second and third prize winners also receive scholarships.

“For many years, the Anders Wall Foundation has worked to provide young musicians with the resources and platforms they need to realise their potential. Through our collaboration with Konserthuset Stockholm, we are strengthening our long-term commitment to giving young talents the visibility they deserve,” says Charlotte Wall, Chair of the Anders Wall Foundation.
