First Lady of Song

Blue House Jazz Orchestra with guests, celebrating 100 Years of Jazz Giants – Volume 2: Ella Fitzgerald.

At this concert, Peter Asplund and Magnus Lindgren together with the Blue House Jazz Orchestra and guest-performing American vocalist and trombone soloist Aubrey Logan pay tribute to one of the twentieth century’s absolute greatest artists in American jazz and popular music: Ella Fitzgerald (1917–96).

Aubrey Logan has been lauded for her phenomenal ability to combine jazz and pop in such a way that raises everything to a new level. She is also associated with Postmodern Jukebox, which became known for dressing up new pop in vintage jazz garb.

There are truly excellent reasons to designate 2017 as an anniversary year for jazz. Behind the concert title is a celebration of some of history’s absolute greatest figures. Ella Fitzgerald, with her honorary title as the First Lady of Jazz, is undeniably among them. She would have been 100 years old this year.

The first part of the celebration was held this spring with the Blue House Jazz Orchestra, with a focus on the innovative trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie (1917–93); the original pianist Thelonius Monk (1917–82); legendary vocalist and human rights champion Lena Horne (1917–2010) and virtuoso drummer Buddy Rich (1917–87).
