Joshua Bell plays Brahms

Joshua Bell is one of the world’s absolute leading and most coveted violinists. He has given numerous acclaimed concerts here at Konserthuset in the past, most recently at the Nobel Prize Concert in 2010 with Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto.

Now we will get to hear him perform Brahms’ Violin Concerto, a piece imbued with melodic diversity and harmonious adventures leading far beyond the usual paths. The slow movement begins with one of Brahms’ most beautiful melodies – which is presented by the oboe! The exuberant, high-spirited finale offers the occasional wink at the musical legacy of Hungarian friend and inspiration, Joseph Joachim. In the Brahms concerto Joshua Bell plays his original cadenza.

Following this will be British music: William Walton’s volcanic and vehement Symphony No. 1. This blackened musical lava flow depicts the composer’s stormy relationship  with baroness Imma von Doernberg.

Leading the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra will be Jaime Martín, artistic director and chief conductor of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra since 2013. In addition to his career as a conductor both in Sweden and abroad, he has an extensive background as a solo flutist in orchestras like the London Philharmonic, Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
