Newly added concert with Peter Mattei

Another chance to hear Peter Mattei in Schubert's Winterreise!

There has been great interest in Peter Mattei's lied concert (12 September), performning Schubert's Winterreise. We are therefore happy to announce this new possibilty with an added concert.

Peter Mattei is one of the foremost vocalists in the world. His interpretation of the titular role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni is among the true showpieces, but equally incredible are his roles as the Count in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro; Figaro in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, and the titular roles in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and Benjamin Britten’s Billy Budd. Peter Mattei performs concerts with the world’s foremost orchestras and with legendary conductors such as Riccardo Muti and Daniel Barenboim on prestigious stages such as the Metropolitan in New York, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Covent Garden in London, Opéra National de Paris and the Vienna State Opera.

The pianist Lars David Nilsson is an avid chamber musician and soloist, and active as rehearsal pianist at the Royal Swedish Opera since 2001. The interest in the art of Lied is profound, Nilsson having a bakground as a singer as well, and the collaboration with Peter Mattei was initiated already in their student years.

Schubert completed Winterreise during the last months of his brief life, and the song cycle is considered the greatest work in the history of lied concertos. The twenty-four settings of Wilhelm Müller’s poems have an emotional depth and psychological force that no other music of this kind has managed to achieve.
