Monday at last with Naimark Meyers and Thedéen

Monday At Last! String trio ZilliacusPerssonRaitinen continues to invite guest musicians and to explore with them new and old music, often in close contact with the audience. This time, they have invited the increasingly popular Swedish violinist Henrik Naimark Meyers and internationally renowned cellist Torleif Thedéen.

Together, they will present music by Finnish composer Sebastian Fagerlund, who is often described as Impressionistic. In addition, winner of the Polar Music Prize Sofia Gubaidulina’s Rejoice! for violin and cello and Arne Nordheim’s deeply expressive Clamavi for solo cello will be heard. Like many of Nordheim’s pieces, this one is based on a text, Psalm 141 from the Book of Psalms: “I call to you, Lord, come quickly to me; hear me when I call to you.”

Georgy Catoire was one of few Russian composers to join the Wagner Society in 1879. The French-sounding surname was a legacy from his ancestry. He lived for a period in Berlin, but moved in the late 1880s back to Moscow where he later became a professor of composition. The trio ZilliacusPerssonRaitinen, strengthened by Henrik Naimark Meyers and Torleif Thedéen, will perform his richly shifting and densely harmonious string quartet here.
