Organ Matinée with Mathias Kjellgren

A musical journey through epochs and styles.

In Konserthuset’s popular organ matinée subscription, audiences get to hear Sweden’s leading organists play the building’s own organ – one of the largest instruments in Europe!

Mathias Kjellgren is the name of the organist seated on the organ stool at this organ matinée. Following his studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he completed a degree in church music and obtained a soloist diploma, he first worked in the Maria Magdalena Church in Stockholm. He has now served as the organist for St. Mary’s Church in Sigtuna for some time, and in addition to his position there, he performs concerts regularly in both Europe and the US. Over the years, he has received many prestigious awards for his organ performances.

Mathias brings a rich and exciting programme to Konserthuset, which covers many epochs and styles. There will be music by Mozart and Bach, but also by Spanish composer Xavier Montsalvatge, who broke through in the 1940s. Mathias will also play an organ arrangement of Ritual Fire Dance from the ballet El amor brujo from 1915 by fellow countryman Manuel de Falla – a passionate piece of music with an Andalusian character.

In addition, Mathias will perform the piece Lux Aeterna, which was dedicated to him by Karin Höghielm and had its world premiere in January 2017.
