Since 2003, it has enjoyed a close partnership with Konserthuset Stockholm and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
Founded in 1945 by Eric Ericson, who was only 27 at the time, the chamber choir has a broad repertoire. Generations of Swedish composers have viewed the “Chamber Choir” as an ideal ensemble, with its typical Nordic sound and virtuosity.
On Kulturnatt Stockholm, the choir juxtaposes the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and Arvo Pärt, under the baton of its conductor Fredrik Malmberg. Both musicians’ work is spiritual and offers solace, even though it was composed in very different times and places. We are also treated to a fitting series of seasonal songs: David Wikander’s lovely Förvårskväll (“One Early Spring Evening”) and Hugo Alfvén’s delightful arrangement of Och jungfrun hon går i ringen (“And the Maiden Joins the Ring”).

An atmospheric concert during which the hall is darkened and the audience gets to experience the music up close on the illuminated stage (limited seating) or from the stalls.
An experience unlike any other: hearing the musicians’ breathing and watching them interact through the slightest looks and gestures. True “chamber” music, as it were! The performers all study at the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s international orchestral academy, a special higher education programme for gifted young musicians.
This evening, they are performing a wind quintet by Paul Taffanel (1844–1908), an influential flautist himself who also served as a conductor. The elegant and charmingly melodic quintet actually allowed Taffanel to win a composition contest in the 1870s.
The RSPO Orchestra Academy (the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s international orchestral academy) is an advanced academic training programme for young musicians. Led by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s section leaders and in partnership with the Piteå School of Music, students undergo rigorous training, focusing on their individual instrument of choice, orchestral music and chamber music. They also participate in a number of chamber music concerts that are open to the public.

On Kulturnatt Stockholm, she and her quartet grace Konserthuset with their presence.
Åsman is a rebel who likes to explore the boundary between jazz and hip-hop. Her haunting trombone sound takes the spotlight, while laid-back beats, soulful piano-playing and Rhodes chords entice you from the shadows. Last year, Åsman released her second LP, Be Free. “The way her music straddles multiple worlds makes the listener prick up their ears. Jazz meets modern soul meets hip-hop – a combination that is both celestial and down to earth. Åsman has developed a unique, well-crafted musical hybrid,” Lira magazine sung the trombone-player’s praises in a review.

An atmospheric concert during which the hall is darkened and the audience gets to experience the music up close on the illuminated stage (limited seating) or from the stalls.
Hearing the players’ bows caress the strings and watching them interact through the slightest looks and gestures makes for an unforgettable experience. True “chamber” music, as it were! The performers all study at the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s international orchestral academy, a special higher education programme for gifted young musicians.
This evening, they perform the first movement of Schubert’s lovely string quintet in C major – one of the finest pieces of chamber music ever written, and one of the last completed by Schubert in his lifetime.

With its 6,100 pipes, the organ at Konserthuset Stockholm is one of the largest in all of Europe, with the capacity to make the entire room shiver.
During this concert, the audience is invited to gather around the impressive keyboard on the actual stage (illuminated by light effects specially designed for the occasion!), to experience the giant instrument up close.
Note: there are a limited number of seats on stage, other listeners are welcome to sit in the stalls.
