Rising Stars is a unique and forward-looking collaboration between 22 of Europe’s leading concert halls, all members of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO). Six young musicians and ensembles from various countries are selected each year and given the opportunity to tour the concert halls and perform before international audiences.

English pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason already has an international career as a soloist and chamber musician. Here, we hear her perform Rachmaninoff, Mozart and Chopin as well as two contemporary composers: Sofia Gubaidulina (featured at Konserthuset’s Composer Festival in 2000) and a new composition by Jamaican Eleanor Alberga.

Isata Kanneh-Mason has performed at the Edinburgh Festival, Wigmore Hall in London, and Carnegie Hall in New York. She also plays duets with her brother, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason (who recently debuted with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra). She won the Leonard Bernstein Award in 2021, and the Opus Klassik Award for best young artist the year before that. Her 2019 debut album (on Decca) is dedicated to the piano music of Clara Schumann and reached first place on classical charts in the UK. A second album was released in 2021, this time with music by Samuel Barber and the world premiere recording of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Impromptu in B minor.

Isata Kanneh-Mason was nominated for Rising Stars by Town Hall & Symphony Hall Birmingham, in collaboration with Barbican Centre London. This is to ensure that we follow current regulations with a distance of at least one meter between all visitors in the hall. To create the greatest possible capacity and predictability, we only sell single seats, every other chair, both sideways and in depth. This means that if you go to the concert with a friend or a group, there will be an empty chair between you.
