Arcadi Volodos

Music by Scriabin and Schubert.

Every concert with pianist Arcadi Volodos is an event. He has long been among the most prominent soloists in the world and performs with orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the New York Philharmonic. He also gives recitals, and debuted in 2019 at Konserthuset in a concert that was acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, with music by Franz Liszt and Robert Schumann.

Volodos only performs a few concerts each year, and it is therefore a particular joy to welcome him back to Konserthuset. This time he brings music by Alexander Scriabin and Franz Schubert.

Scriabin was a breaker of boundaries. He showed a strong attraction to spiritualism, theosophy and mysticism. He was also a synesthete, that is, he saw colours when he heard music. In early works you can hear the influence of Chopin and Liszt, but soon a completely innovative music emerged. We also hear Franz Schubert's Piano Sonata in A minor op 42 – if Schubert had previously been a celebrated composer of lieder, he was now seen as a worthy heir to Beehoven.

Music by Scriabin and Schubert.
