Grigory Sokolov
A beloved October tradition.
Grigory Sokolov is among those exclusive soloists who elevate music to unimagined heights every time, managing to surprise even the choosiest of audiences. With only two exceptions, he has performed at Konserthuset each year since 2004 in an annual October concert. Every concert with Sokolov is unique in its own way, for while his technique is utterly peerless, he rarely adheres to a template for piano virtuosos. His interpretations are deeply personal.
This year’s Sokolov concert evolves around two of the greatest in classical music: Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. We hear Bach’s not so often played duets for keyboard: immensely sophisticaded music that converys both seriousness and dancing lightheartedness. Adding to that one of his most seductive and melodically flowing partitas.
Sokolov also takes on one of Mozart’s most virtuoso and sparkling piano sonatas, as well as the fascinating adagio in b minor – a multifaceted piece with a mysterious power, oscillating between lightness and darkness, misery and bliss.
