Organ matinée with Mila Thoors

Through Konserthuset’s popular organ matinée subscription, audiences get to hear prominent organists play the building’s organ – one of the largest in Europe, with 6,100 pipes.

Russian-born Mila Thoors studied piano, chamber music and accompaniment at the conservatory in Rostov. Her studies continued in Sweden at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg, followed by the master’s programme for organ at the Piteå School of Music. Mila Thoors has been the organist at Kloster Church in Eskilstuna since 2018. She is also active as a conductor. 

The programme features several less well-known names in addition to greats like Johann Sebastian Bach and Sofia Gubaidulina. Gueorgui Mouchel was a twentieth-century Russian composer who became an important name in music in Uzbekistan. His oeuvre is dominated by orchestral works, but also includes a handful of pieces for organ. Ukrainian-born Youri Boutsko was a professor at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory until his death in 2015. He wrote 13 symphonies and four operas, among other works. 

Finally, we hear music by Canadian Rachel Laurin (born 1961), a composer and a prominent organist – leading to an award for her essential contributions to the organ repertoire.
