One of Cuba’s greatest artist’s makes a long-awaited return

For several decades, composer and singer Pablo Milanés has been a giant in the Cuban music scene and is considered one of the country’s greatest artists throughout the ages. On 28 April, he will be in Sweden for a long-awaited return to Konserthuset Stockholm.

Pablo Milanés, commonly known as “Pablito”, moved with his family from Bayamo to Havana in 1950. He studied at the Conservatorio Municipal de La Habana which was considered at the time to be the most prestigious music school in the country. Buzz about Milanés’ soft and smooth voice spread quickly and his career began to take off.

Together with Silvio Rodríguez and Noel Nicola, Pablo Milanés founded the genre of “Nueva Trova”, a movement within Cuban music that developed in the late 1960s which inspired singer/songwriters across the world.

Love and social justice are recurring themes in Milanés’ compositions. He has also set to music poems by Cuban authors, such as José Martí and Nicolás Guillén. Some of his most important musical influences have included María Teresa Vera, Lorenzo Hierrezuelo, Barbarito Diez and Benny Moré. 

Over the years, Pablo Milanés has released 40 solo albums and has won two Latin Grammy Awards; he has also collaborated with numerous well-known Cuban and Spanish artists. In 2017 together with his daughter, Haydée Milanés, Pablo Milanés released his latest album Amor.
