Singer and guitarist Gilberto Gil is one of Brazil’s most esteemed and beloved musical personalities. In conjunction with the Stockholm Jazz Festival 2020, he will appear at Konserthuset Stockholm, joined on stage by his sons Bem Gil and Jose Gil.

Giberto Gil is driven by a unique, vivid passion and belief in the power of music.

He received the 2005 Polar Music Prize for “unwaveringly spreading the richness of Brazilian music worldwide” with strong cultural faith. Over the course of his career, he has become known for his unique style that blends rock, pop, samba, African music and reggae. He was born in 1942 in the coastal city of Salvador in the Brazilian state of Bahia and he is regarded as one of the great rejuvenators of Brazilian popular music. In the 1960s, he made important contributions to the new movement in Brazilian music known as Tropicalismo.

Gilberto Gil has toured the world, produced 60 albums that have sold more than four million copies and has won nine Grammy awards. He was Brazil’s Minister of Culture from 2003–2008 and in 1999 he was designated UNESCO Artist for Peace.

Support act: Brazilian singer-songwriter Adriana Calcanhotto. The new show is based on her latest album Margem, released in 2019. The band includes Rafael Rocha (samplers, drums, percussion, handsonic, whistle), Bruno Di Lullo (bass and synth) and Bem Gil (guitar and synth).
