Mariza

A long-awaited concert from a celebrated fado star.

Mariza, Portugal’s queen of fado, is at the top of her game. Her latest album, Mariza canta Amália – a tribute to the foremother of modern fado, Amália Rodrigues – is a global hit. Now she performs in this long-awaited return to Konserthuset Stockholm.

Portuguese fado is born where sea shanties meet Arabic and African influences. Much has changed over two hundred years later – but the passion remains, and the lyrics often revolve around the fates of the vulnerable.

Mariza grew up in the fado district of Lisbon and began her musical career with interpretations of the genre’s greats. Just over two decades after her debut, Mariza is now the biggest fado star, with listeners spanning far beyond traditional concert audiences. Over the years, Mariza has been named best world music artist by the BBC; she has been nominated for a host of Latin Grammy Awards and she has shared the stage with everyone from Sting to Gilberto Gil. She also played a significant role in UNESCO’s recognition of fado as a cultural heritage legacy in 2011.

Now, with the whole world as her stage, this brightly shining star returns at last to Konserthuset Stockholm!
