Stockholm Swing All Stars – play Ellington

External organiser: Stockholm Swing All Stars Ekonomisk Förening

Stockholm Swing All Stars are dedicating their annual Konserthuset performance to Duke Ellington this year. Duke continuously renewed and reworked his repertoire, a legacy that Stockholm Swing All Stars are carrying on – audaciously, but with respect for the legend. Skilled, swinging and with unerring emotion, in their arrangements they show that there are always new perspectives to take on this classic music. Some of the arrangements are beautiful, others are intricate; some are bluesy and moving – but all are filled with soul, playfulness and swing.

Ellington’s spirit permeates the entire programme, which flows freely between Duke’s classics, less familiar Ellington songs, and looser Duke associations.

At the top, we hear rising star Karl Olandersson’s sure-fire trumpet and at the bottom, experienced Göran Lind’s solid bass. In between, we’ve got Sweden’s top swing drummer, Mattias Puttonen, and the endlessly innovative and current Daniel Tilling on piano. Don’t miss Fredrik Lindborg’s magnificent tenor sax, or Klas Lindquist’s elegant alto sax and clarinet. Trombone player Dicken Hedrenius’ never-ending ideas are also a pleasure to hear.

Welcome to jazz fest!
