It’s time once again for a true summer highlight! The open-air concert at the Maritime Museum on Gärdet is a cherished tradition in Stockholm, delighting audiences for decades. Hugely popular and always well attended, the event often includes sing-alongs and children’s activities – a “must” for many in the Stockholm summer calendar.

This year marks an impressive 50th anniversary for the tradition! As always, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra is joined by special guests – this time the Strömstedts: singer Niklas Strömstedt and host Jenny Strömstedt. Conductor Alexander Hanson leads the orchestra.

You are warmly encouraged to arrive early. The Konserthuset area opens at 11.00 with children’s activities in our tent. Bring a picnic or enjoy food and refreshments available on site. The Philharmonic in the Green is presented in collaboration with the Royal National City Park and Dagens Nyheter.

The trailblazing guitarist returns to Konserthuset. Pat Metheny has had a remarkably long career by now, yet his curiosity has never waned. Few, if any, can match his versatility. A true musical explorer, he has engaged in numerous collaborations over the years – often beyond the realm of jazz. Metheny has performed with the likes of Ornette Coleman and Herbie Hancock but has also worked with Steve Reich and David Bowie, to name just a few.

At Konserthuset Stockholm, he presents his latest album, Dream Box (2023) – a collection of solo pieces recorded over several years while on tour, based on musical ideas he stumbled upon on a long-forgotten hard drive.

Metheny has a habit of quickly recording ideas as they emerge. “As I listened through these sessions, I gradually began to sift through the material and realised that a coherent whole was taking shape. I discovered that, without meaning to, I had arrived at a destination I hadn’t planned – and I’m looking forward to sharing what was hidden there.”

Pat Metheny made his debut at Konserthuset Stockholm in 1989 and last visited us in 2022.

The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra makes a summer guest appearance at Stockholm City Hall this Sunday afternoon in August, marking the centenary of the City Hall organ in the Blue Hall – the largest pipe organ in Scandinavia. The instrument was inaugurated in 1925, two years after the building itself was completed.

Architect Ragnar Östberg had originally envisioned a grand organ, but when the construction ran over budget, there were no funds left for it. Thanks to a generous donation from businessman Oscar Hirsch, the organ – with its remarkable 10,000 pipes – was eventually realised.

The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra performs Francis Poulenc’s famous Organ Concerto with Mattias Wager as soloist, along with an overture by Elfrida Andrée.

Experience the phenomenal Stockholm Swing All Stars in concert, with hits composed by stars such as George Gershwin and Duke Ellington, as well as less familiar greats, like Ann Ronell and Bert Kaempfert.

We also get to enjoy lyrical, beautiful and swinging jazz masterpieces by the same composers. But whether or not these masterpieces have become hits, this concert features the coolest and best jazz tunes in brand new arrangements created by the band, for the band.

Hear “Summertime” and “Ain’t Misbehavin’”, all filtered through Stockholm Swing All Stars’ dazzling improvisations, playfulness and brilliant arrangements infused with history, modernity, and maybe even a hint of the future.

It will be swinging, beautiful and grotesque, and dig deep in the mire of the blues; it will sometimes be sweet and cute – and sometimes dark and dreary. But most of all, it will be fun!

The band members are among Sweden’s leading and most popular jazz musicians and for over 20 years – since they were promising young up-and-comers – they have joined forces as Stockholm Swing All Stars to dig deep into the foundations of jazz. Each one is a fantastic musician in their own right, but together, they form something even greater: a unique band that is simultaneously preserving and renewing jazz. Their latest album is “Play the Jazz Hits”, which came out in 2024.

Born in New York in 1942, Barbra Streisand has sold over 140 million albums and starred in some twenty films – all part of a glittering career that began in 1960s nightclubs and on the Broadway stage. Her film debut came in 1968 with Funny Girl, and she has also written and directed films, including Yentl. Her autobiography My Name is Barbra was published in 2023.

Movies, Memories and Broadway captures the many highlights of a remarkable career. In a seamless flow of solo numbers, duets, orchestral interludes and reflections, the show celebrates an icon: Barbra Streisand.

Konserthuset Stockholm at Hötorget is one of Sweden’s great architectural masterpieces. Created during a period of expansion in Stockholm, by the Swedish architect Ivar Tengbom, it opened in 1926. Konserthuset Stockholm was built for the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and has since the start been the dedicated venue for the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony as well as many other prestigious events.

Just one hour of music – yet a concert brimming with energy and musical variety. That’s what this one-off after-work concert has to offer. Fredrik Burstedt conducts the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, and we meet the young cellist Hugo Svedberg as soloist – winner of the prestigious Polstjärnepriset in 2024. Konserthuset CEO Susanne Rydén is your host.

Hugo Svedberg performs a true classic: Joseph Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major – a masterpiece that vanished for nearly two centuries before being rediscovered in the mid-20th century.

The rest of the programme – with the exception of Maurice Ravel’s beautifully evocative Pavane pour une infante défunte – is all about dance. The concert opens with fiery vitality in Malambo by Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera, followed by Colonial Dance by Florence Price – music that blends European and African American traditions (in the 1930s, Price became the first African American woman to have an orchestral work performed by a major American orchestra). The concert concludes with a symphonic schottis (!) by Karl-Johan Ankarblom.
