They subsequently decided to arrange and compose music for this combination, and commissioned brand new music.
Flowmatiske Nætter by the quartet’s cellist Josefine Opsahl is about different forms of flow, and Al-Layali flomatikiyyeh is by London-born Bushra El-Turk, whom the BBC named one of the world’s 100 most inspiring women of today. We also hear music by Farzia Fallah from Iran, who is now active in Germany, and Finnish Minna Leinonen.

As part of Rising Stars, they have performed at Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Musikverein in Vienna and Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.
Internationally, the two have been described as “a world-class duo with a clear and approachable concept presenting the music with a sense of humour and the unexpected.” Holmander combines clarinet-playing with other artforms – like music and magic. For his “lightning-quick virtuosity, stage presence and depth of sound,” in 2019 Holmander received the Royal Swedish Academy of Music’s new (at that time) Blåsmusikpriset (Wind Music Prize). He was also appointed to Rising Stars that year.
Swedish-Chinese pianist David Huang is one of Sweden’s most acclaimed musicians. He won the Soloist Prize in 2014 and was Artist in Residence at Sveriges Radio P2 from 2014–16. He is also behind First Row – the concert subscription with the feel of a house party, as well as the outdoor festival Gränslandet (with conductor Christian Karlsen) – where classical music and the symphony orchestra merge with a nightclub under the Skanstull bridge in Stockholm.
