About the concert
På svenskaA tribute to a musician of international stature, with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic’s horn section and special guests.
In the season’s first Philharmonic Up Close concert, the orchestra’s acclaimed horn section pays tribute to a colleague. Some concertgoers may remember Ib Lanzky-Otto. Born in Denmark in 1940, he was a member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic’s horn section from 1961 to 2007 – serving as principal horn from 1967 until his retirement. Ib Lanzky-Otto passed away five years ago.
He also enjoyed an international career as a soloist across Europe and the United States – recognised as one of the world’s leading horn players. This tribute concert features music written specifically for him as well as works he often performed. The second half of the programme also highlights the humour and light-heartedness that were so much a part of Ib Lanzky-Otto’s personality.
Additional guest musicians will take part, invited by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic’s horn section. Hommage à Ib Lanzky-Otto is a vibrant celebration of a musician whose remarkable artistry and career can hardly be overstated.
This 2015 film featuring Carl Nielsen’s Wind Quintet opens with Mats Engström interviewing Ib Lanzky-Otto.
