Concert with the RSPO Orchestra Academy
About the concert
På svenskaThe RSPO Orchestra Academy presents 20th-century music from Central Europe.
Since 2016, an orchestra academy has been affiliated with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. The international RSPO Orchestra Academy is a one-year advanced academic programme for young musicians. The programme is run in collaboration with the Department of Music and Art at Linnaeus University in Växjö.
Under the guidance of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s principal players, the musicians receive coaching individually, in chamber music and in orchestral playing. They also present themselves in a number of public chamber concerts – as here, with this year’s academy students.
This concert presents music with a strong Central European character, bringing together four works from the first half of the 20th century and Olga Neuwirth’s quartet from the end of the century. Bohuslav Martinů’s Three Madrigals and Zoltán Kodály’s Duo combine virtuosity with folk influences, while Neuwirth explores entirely different sound worlds in her idiosyncratic second string quartet settori. Hanns Eisler’s playful and theatrical septet Circus leads on to Czech composer Pavel Haas’s colourful and expressive Wind Quintet.
