Kind of Jazz – Jan meets Joe
About the concert
På svenska“A dream come true.” Jan Lundgren with the legendary Joe Lovano and a top-tier Danish rhythm section.
Kind of Jazz, led by pianist Jan Lundgren, has become something of an institution in Stockholm’s jazz scene. This spring tradition now enters its eighth season, presenting three new concerts in the Grünewald Hall – three distinct encounters in which Lundgren brings together musicians from various backgrounds and generations.
This is the finale. “A dream come true,” says Jan Lundgren. “I’ve followed Joe Lovano for over 30 years, and over the years we’ve crossed paths at various festivals – but never actually done a concert together. Now it finally happened!” Joe Lovano is regarded as one of the greatest saxophonists of our time. “You recognise his sound instantly. And many saxophonists have been inspired by him.”
Joining Jan Lundgren are Danish musicians he has worked with before – Jesper Bodilsen on bass and Morten Lund on drums. “It’s a top-tier Danish rhythm section! Morten Lund was in my trio for many years, and I’ve also played a lot with Jesper. But they haven’t appeared in Kind of Jazz before, so it will be great to introduce them to the audience at Konserthuset.”
Jan Lundgren is one of the most respected jazz pianists in the Nordic region. With over 50 albums to his name and an international career marked by stylistic versatility, he combines tradition and innovation with natural elegance.
