Nobel Prize Ceremony
About the concert
På svenskaThe traditional award ceremony. Soloist and programme to be announced.
The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra performs during the ceremony from a specially constructed stage in the choir gallery, above the podium. The podium is covered with the characteristic blue Nobel carpet, with space for members of the academies, the Nobel Prize laureates and the Royal Family. Alfred Nobel’s statue stands at the centre of the stage setting, and the organ at Konserthuset is adorned with an impressive rosette in the colours of Sweden and Norway.
The Nobel Prize has been awarded at Konserthuset every year on 10 December since 1926, with a few exceptions (including during the Second World War, when no prizes were awarded between 1939 and 1944, and more recently during the pandemic in 2020–21, when the ceremony could not be held in its usual form at Konserthuset).
The Nobel Prize Award Ceremony is broadcast on television channels around the world, and international interest in the Nobel Prize is very great.
