Polish Piano Music with Tymoteusz Bies

The Polish pianist Tymoteusz Bies enjoys moving between different musical worlds. He is active as a soloist, chamber musician and composer, but also works with film music, hip-hop and experimental music. On 11 November, Poland’s National Independence Day, he presents a programme spanning several generations of Polish piano music.

The programme includes Frédéric Chopin’s imaginative Polonaise-Fantaisie, while Karol Szymanowski is represented by three mazurkas and the three evocative pieces of Trois masques. Between these works, Bies performs his own short compositions, and the concert opens with music from the Polish jazz pianist Piotr Orzechowski’s 24 Preludes and Improvisations.

Tymoteusz Bies has won numerous prizes at national and international music competitions, including first prize at the International Karol Szymanowski Music Competition. His recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations received the Polish Fryderyk Music Award for Solo Recording of the Year in 2025.

Alongside his musical career, he has also attracted attention as an actor, notably for his leading role in the award-winning 2022 film Bread and Salt.
