Rufus Wainwright – Want Symphonic
About the concert
På svenskaThe Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra joins Rufus Wainwright in a symphonic setting of the iconic albums Want One and Want Two.
With irresistible ease, Rufus Wainwright moves between pop, cabaret and classical music. His first opera was recently revived at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, and with his love of the grand and dramatic, he has created a truly unique musical universe.
Now he returns to Konserthuset Stockholm – this time together with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra – in Want Symphonic: a magnificent concert experience featuring music from his acclaimed albums Want One and Want Two. Rufus Wainwright sees the symphonic arrangements as elevating the music to a whole new level. “There’s nothing more breathtaking than singing in front of a full orchestra.”
Often described as Wainwright’s most epic works, the two albums embrace everything from chamber pop and cabaret to opera and the Great American Songbook, with musical nods to both Ravel and Wagner.
Sir Elton John has called Rufus Wainwright “the greatest songwriter on the planet”, and with his blend of drama, vulnerability and theatrical elegance, he has long captivated audiences across the globe. After successful performances of Want Symphonic in cities such as London, Edinburgh and Chicago, it is now Stockholm’s turn to experience one of the most original voices of our time – in a meeting between the emotional depth of pop and the splendour of the symphony orchestra.
