STHLM Blue Tide – Funeral Folk 2
About the concert
På svenskaMusic between heaven and earth with Sara Parkman and Maria W Horn.
In STHLM Blue Tide, we welcome what defies fixed categories – music and musicians that do not lend themselves easily to classification. Sara Parkman is one of the most distinctive voices on the Swedish folk music scene. With violin and voice as her starting point, she moves freely between tradition and the present day, often giving space to existential questions. Drawing nourishment from Nordic folk music, she shapes it into something deeply personal, where the raw and the poetic coexist.
Composer and sound artist Maria W Horn works at the intersection of the acoustic and the electronic, and has gained international attention for her densely textured soundscapes.
Together, Sara Parkman and Maria W Horn created Funeral Folk, a musical meeting between heaven and earth, where everything from sacred songs to horn tunes, folk melodies from Ångermanland, drone music and black metal found a place. The music was performed using instruments such as synthesisers and violin, bass and hurdy-gurdy, mellotrons and rusted cowbells. Now these singular musicians follow up their acclaimed concert project with Funeral Folk 2.
